Community Involvement
Since the founding of the event we've had an amazing amount of support and interest from the community of Crockett and Houston County. From the city, to local businesses, to volunteer organizations, countless people have reached out offering to help and get involved. The relationships we've formed in Crockett are truly what makes this event special and why we keep coming back year after year. In 2024, we started our first ever college scholarship and are looking forward to developing this idea further in the future
Davy Crockett Classic Scholarship
Each year, one Crockett area high school student is selected to be our scholarship recipient receiving a minimum of $1,000 towards college expenses. The student selected serves as the event's 'Assistance Director' working with the organization and operations of the race weekend. The Assistant Director gets first hand experience organizing a complex sporting event and serves as a local community liaison for the race, helping with communications, volunteer coordination, course preparation, road closures and more. Through this position we aim to provide experience in the field of community event organization to students in Crockett who can take these skills with them to college and beyond. While this program is new, we hope to continue developing this role in the future.

A Message from 2025 Assistant Director Katy Allen

My name is Katy Allen, and I am currently a senior at Latexo High School, but I have lived in Crockett my entire life. Growing up, I’ve always been involved in numerous activities around the county like dance, gymnastics, showing animals, basketball, softball, and most recently, golf. Softball was the one thing that stuck and I’ve been playing since I was four. Through the years, I've played for many teams, both local leagues and travel/tournament teams. This coming summer, I will even get to travel to Spain to represent our country and play as Team USA against the Spanish national teams. For as long as I can remember, softball has played a huge part in my life, and it will continue as I’ve signed and committed to play collegiate softball at Bossier Parish in the fall. In college, I plan to pursue a degree in physical therapy in hopes of one day becoming a Pediatric Physical Therapist. In school, I also currently hold several office positions for multiple clubs and organizations in school. I am the Senior Class President and have been for three years now. I am the BETA Club President, Student Council President, a member of our Health Science Club and am also serving as our local Chapter Secretary for FFA. I discovered the Davy Crockett Bike Race a few years ago when I was heading to softball practice one Sunday afternoon. We got stuck waiting for the bikers to pass for what felt like forever. Fast-forward to May of last year. Alexander Burke had mentioned something about the Bike Race to me and, well, he contacted me recently and explained the opportunities and networking connections the Race could potentially open up for me, so here I am this year taking over his past role in helping to plan this event.
